How does the WebFaz video compressor work?

The compressor helps reduce the size of videos to make them easier to send, share and store. You can also change the format and adjust the video’s dimensions.

1. Choose the video. Drag the file to the marked area or click to select it on your device.

2. Adjust the result. Choose the output format and use simple mode to balance size and quality. Stronger compression can reduce the detail in the image. If you prefer, advanced mode offers individual picture and sound settings.

3. Check the framing. Use “Keep original” to keep the video’s aspect ratio, including when it is vertical. You can also choose another aspect ratio and a lower resolution to help reduce the file. Check the dimensions and the size estimate before continuing; the final size may vary.

4. Compress and download. Click “Compress video now”, wait for it to finish and check the size comparison. Then use “Download video” to save the result. The original file stays on your device.

About Video Compressor

Reduces the size of videos so you can send them by email or messaging app, keeping the original aspect ratio.

A practical example

A 180 MB video recorded on your phone does not fit your company’s email limit. You select the file, choose the “Smallest size (WhatsApp)” level, compress and compare: the result is a fraction of the original size, with enough quality to watch on a phone.

How to use it

  1. Select the video.
  2. Choose the format and the compression level.
  3. Compress and compare the final size.
  4. Download the file.

Limits and cautions

  • The stronger the compression, the lower the visual quality.
  • Long videos take longer, because the work is done by your device.

Video compression: original, estimate and result.
  1. Point 1: Choose the video (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV). It is read by the browser and is not uploaded.
  2. Point 2: Check the original: size, duration and resolution appear at the top.
  3. Point 3: The estimate shows the size before and after compression, so you can decide whether it is worth it.

When to use it

  • Sending a video by email or a messaging app with a size limit.
  • Freeing up phone storage by keeping a smaller copy of old recordings.
  • Preparing a lighter video to upload to a website, form or learning platform.

Tips

  • Start with the balanced level and compare the result; only go lower if the size is still too large.
  • Lowering the resolution (for example, from 1080p to 720p) usually hurts perceived quality less than cutting the bitrate too much.
  • Keep the original until you have checked the compressed file from start to finish.

What happens in your browser

Compression re-encodes the video in your browser using the native encoding feature, at a target bitrate. The levels go from the smallest size, at about 500 kbps, to high fidelity, at about 3,500 kbps; the audio follows, from 64 to 192 kbps.

In advanced mode you directly choose the video and audio bitrates and the output resolution (original, 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p). Lowering the resolution greatly reduces the size, but also the sharpness.

The final size is roughly the bitrate multiplied by the duration. That is why a long video weighs more than a short one at the same quality, and the page shows an estimate of the new file’s size before you download it.

Perguntas frequentes

Is the video uploaded to a server?
No, the compression happens in your browser.
Which format compresses best?
MP4 and WEBM usually give good results; try both and compare.
Which level should I choose for WhatsApp?
The “Smallest size (WhatsApp)” level was made for that: very light files, with acceptable quality on a phone screen.
Can I choose the resolution?
Yes, in advanced mode: original, 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p.
Why does it take a while?
The re-encoding is done by your device. Long, high-resolution videos take longer and the tab needs to stay open.
Can the compressed video end up larger than the original?
If the original is already heavily compressed, a high bitrate can produce a larger file. In that case, choose a lower level.
Is the audio compressed too?
Yes, with an audio bitrate proportional to the level you choose.
