FLAC to MP3: take your collection to the phone and the car

FLAC stores music losslessly, but takes up a lot of space and not every device plays it. Convert to MP3 at 256 or 320 kbps to have a light, compatible copy, keeping the original FLAC saved.

When this is useful

Music for the phone and the car

Many car radios and players do not read FLAC, but they do read MP3.

Free up space keeping a good copy

A 320 kbps MP3 is a fraction of the size of the FLAC.

Tips for a good result

  • Use 320k if the goal is to lose as little quality as possible.
  • Keep the FLACs as the master file: only generate MP3 as a copy.

What this tool does not do

  • MP3 is not lossless: the conversion discards information the FLAC had.
  • There is no way to convert back to FLAC and recover the original quality.
  • The new file carries the “WebFaz.com” credit in the metadata (comment and artist); covers and tags from the original FLAC are not guaranteed in the MP3.

Frequently asked questions

Which bitrate should I use?
320 kbps is the highest offered and the one that best preserves the FLAC’s sound.
Are the tags (artist, album) kept?
It is not guaranteed: the new file receives a WebFaz credit in the metadata. Check in your player and, if needed, edit the tags afterwards.
