M4A to MP3: make iPhone recordings open anywhere

iPhone voice memos and music from the Apple ecosystem often come as M4A, which not every device, site or program recognizes. Convert to MP3 and use the audio wherever you need it.

Tips for a good result

  • Use 192k or more: M4A and MP3 are lossy formats, and converting between them already loses a little.
  • For voice recordings, 128k is usually enough.

What this tool does not do

  • M4A already has lossy compression: converting to MP3 adds new compression, and the quality may drop a little.
  • M4A protected by DRM (old store purchases) cannot be read.
  • The new file carries the “WebFaz.com” credit in the metadata (comment and artist).

Frequently asked questions

Does it lose quality when converting?
A little, because both formats compress with losses. High bitrates reduce the difference.
Does it work for video audio?
To take the audio from a video, use WebFaz Audio Extractor.
