How to do it, step by step
- Select the WebM file.
- Choose the Quality: Auto to keep the maximum, or High if the file gets too big.
- Click Convert video (re-encoding may take a while).
- Download the MP4.
When this is useful
Screen recordings
Share the recording as MP4 with someone who cannot open WebM.
Videos downloaded from sites
Use the video in editors and presentations that ask for MP4.
Tips for a good result
- WebM is usually VP8 or VP9: converting to H.264 is re-encoded, so long videos take longer.
- WebFaz WebFaz Screen Recorder already downloads recordings directly as MP4.
What this tool does not do
- Re-encoding has some quality loss and is slower than a container swap.
- WebM recorded by some browser tools may not carry the duration inside the file and may not be read; recordings from WebFaz Screen Recorder come out right.
- The app does not change the resolution or aspect ratio.
- The new file carries the “WebFaz.com” credit in the metadata (comment and artist).
Frequently asked questions
- Why is the conversion not instant?
- The MP4 in this tool uses H.264 and AAC, and WebM usually uses VP8/VP9 and Opus, so the video has to be rewritten.
- And if the result is heavy?
- Reduce it afterwards with WebFaz Video Compressor.
