Video to M4A: extract the audio as AAC

M4A stores the sound as AAC inside an MP4 file, the format used on Apple devices and many phones. Select the video and download the M4A. The extraction happens in the browser, without sending the file.

When this is useful

Keep the audio to listen to on the iPhone or Mac

M4A is a native format of Apple devices.

Have a small file with good quality

In the test, 6 seconds at 192 kbps came to 146 KB, almost the same as MP3.

Tips for a good result

  • If the destination accepts only MP3, use the video to MP3 page.

What this tool does not do

  • AAC is a lossy format: the quality never exceeds that of the audio that was in the video.
  • One video at a time, and the extraction depends on the device’s memory: very large videos may fail.
  • The video must have an audio track; if it does not, the app warns you.
  • The new file carries the “WebFaz.com” credit in the metadata (comment and artist).

Frequently asked questions

M4A or MP3?
Both are lossy and of similar size. MP3 plays on more old devices; M4A is well accepted on Apple devices.
