Video to WAV: extract the audio uncompressed

WAV stores the sound uncompressed, at 16 bits, and serves to edit the audio in other programs without losing quality on every save. Select the video and download the WAV. The extraction happens in the browser, without sending the file.

When this is useful

Edit the sound in an audio program

WAV does not lose quality when saved again, unlike MP3.

Deliver the audio to a production

Many studios and platforms ask for WAV.

Tips for a good result

  • WAV is big: in the test, 6 seconds in stereo came to 1.1 MB, about 11 MB per minute.
  • If size is a problem, use the video to MP3 page.

What this tool does not do

  • WAV does not improve the sound: it stores uncompressed the audio that was already in the video, and the video’s has usually been compressed.
  • There is no bitrate choice in WAV, because the format does not compress.
  • One video at a time, and the extraction depends on the device’s memory: very large videos may fail.
  • The video must have an audio track; if it does not, the app warns you.
  • The new file carries the “WebFaz.com” credit in the metadata (comment and artist).

Frequently asked questions

Why does the WAV get so big?
Because it stores all the sound samples uncompressed: about 11 MB per minute in stereo.
Does WAV have more quality than MP3?
It loses nothing in the conversion, but it does not recover what the video had already lost when it was recorded.
