Reduce a video without visible quality loss: the high fidelity level

Reducing a video file always involves some loss. The High fidelity level uses 3500 kbps of video and 192 kbps of audio and keeps the original resolution, to stay as close as possible to the source video. It helps more with heavy videos (recorded at a high bitrate); with videos that are already light, the saving is small or none.

How to do it, step by step

  1. Select the video.
  2. The level already comes as High fidelity and the resolution as Original; check the estimate.
  3. Compress and compare the result with the original in the two players.
  4. If the file is still big, lower the level one step.

Tips for a good result

  • Compare the two players side by side before downloading.
  • If the original video was already heavily compressed, little or nothing will be saved.

What this tool does not do

  • There is no lossless reduction: the result has some loss, even if hard to notice.
  • If the original already has a bitrate lower than or similar to the chosen level’s, there is almost no saving (in a test with a light video, the file came out the same size) and it can even grow.
  • The new file carries the “WebFaz.com” credit in the metadata (comment and artist).

Frequently asked questions

Can I reduce with no loss at all?
Not with this app. The compression rewrites the video with losses; high fidelity just minimizes the impact.
Can the file grow?
It can, if the original video was already lighter than the chosen level. Compare the size before downloading.
