How to do it, step by step
- Open or drag the .srt file (or paste the content into the Input box).
- Check the result in the Output box.
- Click Download VTT, or Copy result.
When this is useful
Put subtitles on a website video
The browsers’ video tag uses subtitles in VTT.
Reuse a subtitle made for another program
Many editors export SRT, and the site asks for VTT.
Tips for a good result
- The downloaded file takes the original’s name with the .vtt extension.
- To remove italics and bold from the subtitles, use “Remove style tags” in the Adjust timing tab.
- For the opposite conversion, use the VTT to SRT page.
What this tool does not do
- Italic and bold tags (<i>, <b>) are kept, unless you choose to remove them.
- VTT-specific position and alignment do not exist in SRT, so none of that is created in the conversion.
- Subtitle files of up to 5 MB; ZIP of up to 256 MB; video of up to 2 GB.
- Everything happens in the browser: the file is not sent. The only exception is the optional translation, which sends only the text of the lines.
Frequently asked questions
- Do the times change?
- No. The intervals are the same; only the separator of the milliseconds changes, from comma to period.
- Is the file sent to any server?
- No. The conversion is done in your browser.
