How to do it, step by step
- Select the PDF.
- Under Conversion type, choose Editable text (keeps the formatting) or Identical appearance.
- Click Run.
- Download the .docx and open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs.
When this is useful
Edit a contract or template received as a PDF
Adjust clauses, names and dates without retyping everything.
Reuse text from a report
Copy passages, edit the formatting and build a new document.
Update a résumé
If you only have the old PDF, convert it, edit it and export it again.
Tips for a good result
- Check headers, tables and images in Word: complex layouts may need adjusting.
- If the PDF is scanned (a photo of paper), run OCR PDF first, since there is no text to convert.
- Use Identical appearance when the look matters more than editing; in that mode each page becomes an image and is not editable.
What this tool does not do
- The conversion extracts text and structure; it does not perfectly reproduce very elaborate layouts.
- Scanned PDFs without a text layer only work after OCR.
- Fonts that the computer does not have are replaced when the file is opened.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the file sent to any server?
- No. The conversion happens in your browser.
- Which mode should I choose?
- Editable text if you want to change the content; Identical appearance if you want the same look, even without being able to edit the text.
- Does it preserve columns?
- The reading order of two-column text is kept, but more complex layouts may need review.
