How to do it, step by step
- Select the audio (MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG, OPUS or AAC).
- See the tags found in the panel.
- Click Clean this.
- Download the clean audio: it comes out ending in _clean and in the same format.
When this is useful
Share a recording without identifying who recorded it
Artist, title and recording software are left out.
Hand podcasts and audio to third parties
Avoid internal tags, such as the project’s or the computer’s name.
Tips for a good result
- The sound is copied without re-encoding: the clean file usually has almost the same size.
- Load the clean audio again to check the tags.
What this tool does not do
- The file is rewritten by the browser with the sound copied and without the tags.
- Tested with MP3 (ID3) and WAV with tags inside; for other formats, check the result in the panel.
- If you want to keep the cover, artist or album, this tool is not for you: it removes all tags.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the audio lose quality?
- No. The sound is copied without re-encoding.
- Does the format change?
- No. The file comes back in the same format it came in.
- How do I know my file is not sent to any server?
- The cleaning happens in your browser, and you can check it: open the developer tools (F12 key), go to the Network tab and clean a file; no request goes out with the file. In our own test, between choosing the file and downloading the clean version, there was no request to external servers. When it opens, the page communicates with services such as Google Analytics, but that sends only the page visit (address and title), never the file, its name or the data read.
