How to do it, step by step
- Select the .xlsx file.
- See the properties found.
- Click Clean this.
- Download the clean spreadsheet.
When this is useful
Send spreadsheets to suppliers and clients
Avoid exposing who in the company created or edited the file.
Release public data
Publish the spreadsheet without the author’s name in the properties.
Tips for a good result
- Check under File > Info in Excel whether the properties are gone.
- Hidden sheets, user names in comments and links to other files stay in the spreadsheet: review before sending.
What this tool does not do
- It only accepts .xlsx; old .xls spreadsheets must be saved as .xlsx first.
- Hidden sheets, comments and external links are not removed.
- Images inserted in the spreadsheet keep their own metadata.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the spreadsheet data change?
- No. Only the file’s properties are cleaned.
- Does it remove hidden sheets?
- No. They stay in the file; review before sharing.
- How do I know my file is not sent to any server?
- The cleaning happens in your browser, and you can check it: open the developer tools (F12 key), go to the Network tab and clean a file; no request goes out with the file. In our own test, between choosing the file and downloading the clean version, there was no request to external servers. When it opens, the page communicates with services such as Google Analytics, but that sends only the page visit (address and title), never the file, its name or the data read.
