How to do it, step by step
- Select the PDF.
- See the attributes: Author, Title, Producer, Creator and dates.
- Click Clean this.
- Download the clean PDF (name with _clean).

Tips for a good result
- In a test, a PDF with author, title, dates and XMP ended up without any of those fields, and the author’s name stopped appearing even in the file’s bytes.
- To also hide sensitive text, edit the document before generating the PDF.
What this tool does not do
- The content of the pages is not changed: names, signatures and information written in the text stay there.
- Authors of comments and annotations inside the document are not cleaned.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the PDF change appearance?
- No. Only the file’s property data is removed.
- Does this anonymize the document?
- Not completely: the page text and comments stay. It helps remove the hidden property data.
- How do I know my file is not sent to any server?
- The cleaning happens in your browser, and you can check it: open the developer tools (F12 key), go to the Network tab and clean a file; no request goes out with the file. In our own test, between choosing the file and downloading the clean version, there was no request to external servers. When it opens, the page communicates with services such as Google Analytics, but that sends only the page visit (address and title), never the file, its name or the data read.
