Subtitles to Markdown: turn lines into an article

Open a subtitle file and download a Markdown file with a title and the lines in paragraphs, ready to become an article, note or post. Times and style tags are removed. The conversion happens in the browser, without sending the file.

Open or drag a subtitle, ZIP or videoSubtitles up to 5 MB · ZIP up to 256 MB · MP4/MOV and MKV/WebM up to 2 GB

Files stay on your device.

Input

JSON: array of objects with start and end in seconds and text with the line. TXT and Markdown: each non-empty line becomes a block.

Output

Watch and fix the subtitles

Video and editing stay on the device. Review text and times and apply the corrections before sending.

Subtitle lines

0 of 0 lines

Open a subtitle or use Add line to create from scratch.

Reading review · 0 line(s) with warnings

Warnings help review long lines, fast reading, more than two lines, durations and overlaps. They are adjustable references, do not block export and may be intentional in dialogue.

The output uses the applied corrections.

Continue in the video editor or the text editor.

How to do it, step by step

  1. Open or drag the subtitle file.
  2. In the Adjust timing tab, write the article Title.
  3. Check the Markdown in the Output box.
  4. Click Download Markdown or Copy result.

When this is useful

Create an article from a video

The text of the lines already comes in paragraphs, for you to edit.

Keep the transcript in a notes system

Note-taking programs and static sites use Markdown.

Tips for a good result

  • The default title is “Transcript”; change it to something that describes the video.
  • Review the language: speech is not usually written like text meant for reading.

What this tool does not do

  • The conversion keeps the original text: it does not summarize, correct or reorganize the lines.
  • The Markdown has only the title and the paragraphs; there are no subheadings or lists.
  • Subtitle files of up to 5 MB; ZIP of up to 256 MB; video of up to 2 GB.
  • Everything happens in the browser: the file is not sent. The only exception is the optional translation, which sends only the text of the lines.

Frequently asked questions

Do the times go into the Markdown?
Not by default. If you tick “Include time codes”, each line starts with the moment, in brackets.
