How to do it, step by step
- Open or drag the subtitle file.
- See the text in the Output box (clean TXT).
- If you like, in the Adjust timing tab choose to include the time codes or join everything into one paragraph.
- Click Download clean TXT or Copy result.
When this is useful
Read a video’s content as text
A class or talk becomes text to read and search.
Prepare the text for a summary or article
Take the text to WebFaz Text Editor to organize it.
Tips for a good result
- Each line becomes a paragraph; untick “Separate lines into paragraphs” to join everything into one block.
- Tick “Include time codes” to keep the moment of each line, in the format [00:00:01.000].
- Two-line captions are joined into one.
What this tool does not do
- The text comes out without identifying who is speaking: the subtitles do not carry that information.
- Italics, bold and other tags are removed.
- Subtitle files of up to 5 MB; ZIP of up to 256 MB; video of up to 2 GB.
- Everything happens in the browser: the file is not sent. The only exception is the optional translation, which sends only the text of the lines.
Frequently asked questions
- Are the times lost?
- By default, yes: the clean TXT has only the lines. To keep the moments, tick the time codes option.
- Can I go back from the text to the subtitles?
- Yes, but the times will be estimated: see the text to SRT page.
